Let’s be real – running without music is like trying to eat ice cream without a spoon. Sure, it’s possible, but it’s messy, uncomfortable, and you’ll probably end up quitting halfway through. That’s why finding the ultimate running playlist is basically a life-or-death situation. Trust me, the right song at the right time can turn a miserable slog into a slightly less miserable slog. (I’m all about managing expectations.)

For me, the perfect running playlist has to hit all the marks: upbeat enough to keep me moving, dramatic enough to make me feel like I’m training for the Olympics (even if it’s just a casual jog), and catchy enough that I can distract myself from the fact that I have two miles left and my legs are plotting revenge.

But why is this so important? Well, because music is my personal running coach. A good playlist knows exactly when I need that extra push – like when I’m about to walk instead of run up a hill, or when I need to drown out the sound of my own gasping. Seriously, have you ever listened to yourself breathe while running? It’s terrifying.

Here are some of my favorite playlist (don’t you dare judge me)

Runner’s World to the Rescue
Now, if you’re like me and making playlists feels like homework, you’re in luck. Runner’s World does a monthly playlist specifically designed for long runs. They update it regularly with fresh tunes, so you don’t have to keep listening to that one Taylor Swift song you’ve played 142 times (no judgment, it happens to the best of us). It’s like having a DJ who knows exactly when your pace is about to drop, and BAM—there’s your favorite pump-up song just in time to save you from walking.

So do yourself a favor: find that perfect running playlist, whether it’s your own creation or courtesy of Runner’s World. Your legs—and your sanity—will thank you.

Happy running (and jamming)!
